After a childhood of playing with old radios, TVs and other wonders from the scrapyard, Paul began a career as an Engineer.
It’s hardly surprising then, that with Paul’s love of tinkering, he has now gone back to his old ways and has turned his talents into a business.
Paul set up Bad Dog Designs in 2014. He found a way to combine old Nixie tubes (from the 50’s and 60’s) with a variety of vintage equipment. From scientific equipment, test instruments and possibly anything else you can think of. Paul creates these amazing Nixie Clocks.
At the time he started out Paul didn’t realise that there was a ‘Steam Punk’ trend. But soon ‘Steam Punk’ followers were discovering Paul and couldn’t get enough of his designs.
As long as there are Nixie tubes to be found – Paul can continue to create his unique Designs. Paul uses antique or retro instruments to case his Nixie tubes.
Bad Dog Designs have a small collection that are available for sale, but most of his work is by commission. Paul is able to use a clients own instruments, or alternatively they can choose options from his collection. The work can take up to a couple of months to produce, as each piece is unique. Salvaged items are all beautifully restored.
