Bee inspired by our new Moodboard!
We are buzzing on the blog about out new moodboard – inspired by the beautiful Bee Sculptures of artist Michelle McKinney.
Brass, copper and stainless steel are hand crafted to form Michelle’s unique specimen collection. Indusitrial materials, better know for their strength and weight, are transformed into ultra -fine woven mesh to create these delicate translucent sculptures.
So buzzing with Bee inspiration I set off on my search to bee inspired and see what bee-utiful things I could find. Don’t worry, that’s got all the corny dialog out of the way now !
One of my favourites for creative design has to be Timorous Beasties. This fabulous velvet Bee cushion has previously made an appearance on my Midnight magic moodboard. It’s so gorgeous that it had to be included in the round-up. Marks and Spencer are also rocking the Bee trend this season. I found this beautiful cushion along with a simple Hexagonal mirror in Antique gold. There are larger multi hexagonal frames around (if you want to go for the whole ‘hey I’m hiving it’ look). But I did feel it was better be more restrained with single mirrors and just add one or two more if you want a real theme going on.
I love Oriental furniture and thought it would create a classic timeless elegance for my Bee theme. I found this rather sophisticated Cocktail cabinet at Houseology (well doesn’t every one have cocktails? ) along with a set of 2 black lacquer chests and burnished brass and glass coffee table.
I found this simple 3 pendant light in clear glass and burnished brass at Jim Lawrence and although this Eden copper table lamp from Nicholas Haslam it is quite an investment piece and may blow the budget – the style fitted with the design so perfectly that it had to be included. The beautiful bowls (far to pretty to use) I found at Tom Dixon
I found Bee’s decorating china at White Mint . Although this Hexagonal table didn’t fit in and make it on the moodboard I did feel it worth a mention on the blog. It’s an interesting piece and is available at Nest .
Other good places it’s always worth taking a look for themed home accessories are Not on the High Street and Etsy
If you like the ideas of Bees on the wall Timorous Beasties are there with design – showing two of the best designs below – the first design comes in several colours and the second design also comes as a bee stripe variation. For a simpler style – which could look good in a children’s bedroom the simple classic Bee design from Farrow and Ball can look quite elegant.
Well I couldn’t end this without a mention in support of our beautiful Bees. You can find lots of interesting Bee info and details of how you can help them if you buzz along to The Bee Cause at Friends of the Earth .
